Grafton Pond
August 8th, 2007 by KimProbably everyone in the state of New Hampshire knows about Grafton Pond. If you don’t, you must check it out. It might be one of the best places to paddle in New Hampshire. Due to its popularity, however, I strongly recommend avoiding the weekend rush.
Even if you visit Grafton Pond on the weekends you will have a great time. It’s a large pond full of peaceful hidden coves and islands. As part of Grafton Pond Reservation, it is a protected area which enjoys a variety of fauna and wildlife. (Look for the several Loon families which live on the Pond).
Pack a picnic and make a day of your adventure at Grafton Pond.
Put-in
VERY shallow, but easy sand boat ramp (only 6HP boats allowed). Small parking area at put -in which gets extremely crowded on the weekends.
How To Get There
From Canaan, take Rte 4 to Potato Road. Left onto Potato Rd and follow for several miles until you eventually reach Grafton Pond. From Hanover or any location of the 89, take Rte 4 to 4A. Stay on 4A for severals miles until you reach Grafton Pond Road on your left. Follow to end and take a right. Pond and put-in are right around the corner.
